Are You Wondering Whether Your Child Has Autism Traits?
Many parents notice these signs long before they have a name for them. If some of the following feel familiar, an assessment can help bring clarity.
Communication Differences
Limited conversation, difficulty expressing needs, unusual speech patterns or challenges understanding non-literal language.
Social Interaction
Difficulty joining others, maintaining friendships, reading social cues or understanding another person’s perspective.
Repetitive Patterns
Repetitive movements, repeated phrases, highly focused interests or a strong preference for familiar activities.
Need for Predictability
Becoming distressed by unexpected changes, transitions or situations that do not follow the expected routine.
Sensory Differences
Strong or reduced responses to sounds, textures, lights, smells, movement, food or physical sensations.
Emotional Regulation
Becoming overwhelmed easily or needing considerable support to recover from frustration, anxiety or sensory overload.
What Is an Autism Assessment?
An autism assessment is a structured, evidence-based evaluation carried out by a registered educational psychologist. It looks closely at how your child communicates, relates to others, processes their environment and responds to everyday routines and changes.
Every assessment is tailored to your child’s age and developmental stage, combining conversation, observation and structured activities so the findings reflect who your child really is — not a checklist of symptoms.
The purpose is not simply to obtain a diagnosis. It is to understand your child’s strengths, needs and the support that may be most helpful.
Why Families Choose CHEERS

Child-Centred Approach
Sessions are paced according to your child’s age, comfort, communication style and individual needs.
Comprehensive Evaluation
We consider autism alongside attention, learning, emotional and developmental factors.
Practical Home and School Support
Recommendations help parents and teachers translate the findings into everyday support.
Assessment Process
The assessment is planned according to your child’s age, developmental profile and presenting concerns.

Initial Consultation
We discuss your concerns, your child’s developmental history, current functioning and the questions you hope the assessment will answer.
Information Gathering

Parents and teachers may complete questionnaires. Relevant school reports, previous assessments and intervention records may also be reviewed.
Individual Assessment

Your child attends structured assessment sessions involving conversation, observation and age-appropriate activities. Cognitive or academic testing may be included when relevant.
Clinical Interpretation

Findings from interviews, observations, questionnaires and standardised measures are considered together before any conclusion is reached.
Feedback and Recommendations

Parents receive a feedback consultation and written report explaining the findings, conclusions and practical recommendations.
Ongoing Support

Once the primary assessments are complete, we continue to provide ongoing support to both the child and the family. This ensures that progress is maintained and any new challenges are addressed promptly.
How Long Does the Process Take?
The assessment usually takes place across two appointments, between two and three hours each, once for the child’s assessment and another session for the parent’s interview. We will explain the proposed process after the initial consultation.
The whole process, from consultation to assessment completion and report collection, is usually completed within 2 to 3 weeks.
Support Beyond the Assessment

Understanding your child’s profile is the beginning of the support process. Depending on the findings, recommendations may include school accommodations, parent strategies, counselling, social skills support, executive functioning intervention or referrals to other professionals.
Where appropriate, CHEERS can also liaise with the school to help teachers understand the findings and recommended support.

My children had help and support from Cheers since they were in primary school. The holistic approach from Cheers has benefited my children in their learning journey up to end of secondary school. They became self-aware, confident, independent and learned to rely on their strengths while addressing areas to be improved. Cheers is a viable option if parents need an alternative channel for their child.Posted on Google![]()

When my child first visited the centre for his social anxiety and selective mutism issues. I'm surprise to that interactive with Ms Ming Ying so well (usually he doesn't warm up so quickly with stranger). After assessment, now my child is attending social skills class with Ms Kayce. She is always so patient and encouraging to him. She even find volunteers to help practise with him on social scenario. I can see he is slowly overcoming his social anxiety. Thank you Ms Ming Ying and Ms Kayce!Posted on Google![]()

My son, Rex, has been with Teacher Ming for 6 years, taking English Tuition as well as counselling and social skills classes. Teacher Ming's methods have yield postive results for Rex. Her patience, calmness and kind encouragement always set Rex at ease whenever he encountered challenges academically, emotionally and socially. She is also knowledgeable and readily provides advice and listening ear to parents. Rex also took Maths tuition under Teacher Kaylie since Nov 2024. Teacher Kaylie is equally patient, and is experienced in breaking down the concepts to make it easier for Rex to comprehend. As Rex completes his Secondary School journey this year, we would like to convey our appreciation to Teacher Ming and Teacher Kaylie. Thank you for supporting and helping Rex! ☺️Posted on Google![]()

We first approached Ms Ming in 2025 to have an IQ assessment done for our son, whom we suspected might be gifted. Ms Ming administered the assessment with great professionalism and prepared the final report promptly, with clear recommendations on how we could further support his development. Based on how comfortable and happy our son was with Ms Ming, we decided to continue with intervention sessions focusing on social boundaries, and we quickly saw positive changes in his behaviour. After each session, Ms Ming always took the time to share feedback on their interactions and his progress with us. Our son is now having executive function sessions with Ms Kayce, with similar success, and he is always looking forward to spending time at Cheers. Thank you, Ms Ming and Ms Kayce!Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Ming has been caring for my child for years now, and choosing to work with her is hands down one of the best decisions we’ve made for our family. Those early, formative years can feel so overwhelming, but having her guidance has made all the difference. What makes Dr. Ming truly special is that her care doesn't stop with the kids. She has a rare gift for tuning into what we as parents are going through, offering support and empathy right when we need it most. My child genuinely looks forward to every single session, which speaks volumes. If you are looking for someone who will truly invest in your child and stand by your family through the challenging times, I cannot recommend Dr. Ming enough.
Frequently Asked Questions
At what age can a child undergo an autism assessment?
Autism-related differences may be assessed from early childhood, from 4-5 years old onwards. The assessment approach and tools will depend on the child’s age, developmental level and presenting concerns.
Does my child need to show every sign of autism?
No. Persons with autism have different combinations of strengths and needs. The assessment considers the overall pattern, developmental history and impact on daily functioning.
Can a child make eye contact and still be autistic?
Yes. Eye contact alone does not determine whether a child is autistic. The psychologist considers the broader quality of social communication, reciprocity, behaviour and developmental history.
Can autism occur together with ADHD?
Yes. Autism and ADHD can occur together. A comprehensive assessment helps distinguish overlapping characteristics and determine whether one or both conditions are supported.
What if my child behaves differently at home and school?
This is common because expectations and demands vary across settings. Information from parents, teachers and direct assessment helps explain these differences.
Does the assessment always lead to a diagnosis?
No. A diagnosis is provided only when sufficient evidence is available. The assessment may identify another explanation, indicate that monitoring is appropriate or recommend further evaluation.
How much does an autism assessment cost?
The standard autism assessment fee is between S$1500- S$2,250 depending on your CHAS card colour or referral source.
Will we receive a written report?
Yes. Parents receive a written report explaining the findings, conclusions and recommendations for home, school and relevant interventions.
How long would the report be valid?
Autism is a lifelong condition. The diagnosis is valid for a lifetime. However, parts of the report such as the IQ test and adaptive behaviour test, may require an updated assessment around 2-3 years depending on their developmental growth and needs.
