ADHD Assessment for Children & Teens in Singapore

Understand your child’s attention, behaviour and executive functioning through a comprehensive ADHD assessment.
At CHEERS Learning and Assessment Services, we look beyond whether a child is simply “distracted” or “active”. We consider your child’s developmental history, behaviour across home and school, attention and executive functioning, and cognitive and learning profile where relevant.
Our goal is not simply to determine whether your child meets the criteria for ADHD, but to understand why your child may be struggling and what support may help them move forward.
Does My Child Need an ADHD Assessment?
Children with attention difficulties do not all look the same. Some are noticeably active and impulsive, while others may be quiet but frequently lose focus, forget instructions or struggle to complete their work.
An assessment may be helpful when these difficulties are persistent, affect everyday functioning, or are causing concerns at home or school.
🎯 Attention & Focus
Frequently loses focus, becomes distracted or has difficulty sustaining attention during lessons and everyday tasks.
✅ Following Through
Starts work but has difficulty completing it, needs repeated reminders or moves from one activity to another.
📅 Organisation & Time
Has difficulty planning, organising materials, estimating time or getting started independently.
❤️ Self-Regulation
Becomes frustrated easily, has difficulty slowing down or needs considerable adult support to regulate behaviour.
🧠 Remembering
Forgets instructions, belongings, homework or what they were supposed to be doing.
⚡ Impulse Control
Interrupts, acts before thinking, struggles to wait or makes impulsive decisions.
Does Poor Attention Always Mean ADHD?
No. Difficulties with attention and concentration can have many possible explanations.
Anxiety & Emotional Stress
Worry, stress or emotional difficulties can make it harder for a child to concentrate.
Learning Difficulties
A child may appear inattentive when academic work is particularly difficult or effortful.

Autism & Developmental Differences
Differences in communication, sensory processing, flexibility or engagement can sometimes affect attention.
Executive Functioning Difficulties
Planning, working memory, organisation and task initiation can be weak even when a child does not meet the criteria for ADHD.

Sleep, Health & Environment
Poor sleep, fatigue, health issues and environmental demands can also affect concentration and behaviour.

This is why CHEERS considers information from multiple sources rather than relying on a single questionnaire or test.
What Happens During an ADHD Assessment?
An ADHD assessment involves understanding how your child functions across different situations, rather than looking at one test score in isolation.

Parent Consultation & Developmental History
We begin by understanding your concerns, your child’s developmental and educational history, behaviour at home and school, and how current difficulties affect everyday functioning.
Child Assessment & Observation

Your child is observed during assessment activities. We consider attention, activity level, persistence, response to instructions and other relevant behaviours.
Parent & Teacher Feedback

Information from parents and teachers helps us understand whether difficulties occur across settings and how different environments may affect your child.
Learning Assessment Where Relevant

If there are concerns about reading, writing, mathematics or other learning areas, additional assessment may help determine whether learning difficulties are contributing to your child’s challenges.
What If Parent and Teacher Reports Are Different?
This is quite common.
A child may function differently at school and at home because each environment places different demands on attention, independence, behaviour and emotional regulation.
Differences between parent and teacher ratings do not automatically confirm or rule out ADHD.
The psychologist considers the overall pattern of information, including the child’s developmental history, observations, assessment findings and functioning across settings.
Can a Computerised Attention Test Diagnose ADHD?
Not By Itself
A computerised attention test can provide useful information about aspects of attention, response control and consistency. However, ADHD is not diagnosed based on one computer test alone.
A child may perform adequately during a structured one-to-one test but still experience significant attention or executive functioning difficulties in everyday life. Conversely, poor performance on an attention test does not automatically mean that a child has ADHD.
Test results need to be interpreted as part of the child’s broader developmental and behavioural profile.
What Are the Different Presentations of ADHD?
ADHD can present differently from one child to another. The main presentations include:

Predominantly Inattentive
The child may have difficulty sustaining attention, following through, remembering information, organising work or avoiding distractions.
Predominantly Hyperactive/ Impulsive

The child may show greater difficulty remaining still, waiting, controlling impulses or regulating activity and talking.
Combined Presentation

The child shows significant difficulties involving both inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive symptoms.
The way ADHD presents can also change as a child develops.
ADHD and Executive Functioning: Are They the Same?
Not quite.
Not quite. ADHD is associated with difficulties in attention and/or impulse and activity regulation. Executive functioning refers to the mental skills we use to manage ourselves and get things done.
A child can experience executive functioning difficulties without necessarily meeting the diagnostic criteria for ADHD.
At What Age Can a Child Be Assessed for ADHD?
Attention, activity level and self-control naturally develop as children grow. Some ADHD-related concerns may become noticeable during the preschool or early primary years, while other children experience greater difficulties only when school demands increase.
Whether an assessment is appropriate depends on the child’s age, developmental level, symptoms and the impact of these difficulties on everyday functioning.
If you are unsure whether your child requires a full ADHD assessment, you can begin with a consultation to discuss your concerns and determine the most appropriate next step.

My children had help and support from Cheers since they were in primary school. The holistic approach from Cheers has benefited my children in their learning journey up to end of secondary school. They became self-aware, confident, independent and learned to rely on their strengths while addressing areas to be improved. Cheers is a viable option if parents need an alternative channel for their child.Posted on Google![]()

When my child first visited the centre for his social anxiety and selective mutism issues. I'm surprise to that interactive with Ms Ming Ying so well (usually he doesn't warm up so quickly with stranger). After assessment, now my child is attending social skills class with Ms Kayce. She is always so patient and encouraging to him. She even find volunteers to help practise with him on social scenario. I can see he is slowly overcoming his social anxiety. Thank you Ms Ming Ying and Ms Kayce!Posted on Google![]()

My son, Rex, has been with Teacher Ming for 6 years, taking English Tuition as well as counselling and social skills classes. Teacher Ming's methods have yield postive results for Rex. Her patience, calmness and kind encouragement always set Rex at ease whenever he encountered challenges academically, emotionally and socially. She is also knowledgeable and readily provides advice and listening ear to parents. Rex also took Maths tuition under Teacher Kaylie since Nov 2024. Teacher Kaylie is equally patient, and is experienced in breaking down the concepts to make it easier for Rex to comprehend. As Rex completes his Secondary School journey this year, we would like to convey our appreciation to Teacher Ming and Teacher Kaylie. Thank you for supporting and helping Rex! ☺️Posted on Google![]()

We first approached Ms Ming in 2025 to have an IQ assessment done for our son, whom we suspected might be gifted. Ms Ming administered the assessment with great professionalism and prepared the final report promptly, with clear recommendations on how we could further support his development. Based on how comfortable and happy our son was with Ms Ming, we decided to continue with intervention sessions focusing on social boundaries, and we quickly saw positive changes in his behaviour. After each session, Ms Ming always took the time to share feedback on their interactions and his progress with us. Our son is now having executive function sessions with Ms Kayce, with similar success, and he is always looking forward to spending time at Cheers. Thank you, Ms Ming and Ms Kayce!Posted on Google![]()

Dr. Ming has been caring for my child for years now, and choosing to work with her is hands down one of the best decisions we’ve made for our family. Those early, formative years can feel so overwhelming, but having her guidance has made all the difference. What makes Dr. Ming truly special is that her care doesn't stop with the kids. She has a rare gift for tuning into what we as parents are going through, offering support and empathy right when we need it most. My child genuinely looks forward to every single session, which speaks volumes. If you are looking for someone who will truly invest in your child and stand by your family through the challenging times, I cannot recommend Dr. Ming enough.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my child have ADHD if they can focus on games?
Yes. Attention can vary depending on interest, motivation, stimulation and task demands. Being able to focus intensely on a preferred activity does not by itself rule out ADHD.
Can a child have good grades and still have ADHD?
Yes. Academic achievement alone does not determine whether a child has ADHD. Some children compensate through strong cognitive abilities, considerable effort, parental support or structured environments.
Does being very active mean my child has ADHD?
Not necessarily. Activity levels differ between children and also vary with age and situation. ADHD involves a persistent pattern of difficulties that affects everyday functioning.
Can ADHD affect emotional regulation?
Some children with ADHD also experience difficulty managing frustration or emotional reactions. However, emotional difficulties can have many causes and should not automatically be attributed to ADHD.
What if my child's attention test is normal?
A normal computerised attention test does not automatically rule out ADHD. Test findings need to be considered alongside developmental history, behaviour, observations and functioning across settings.
Will you need information from my child's school?
Teacher observations can be particularly useful because they provide information about the child’s attention and behaviour in a classroom environment. The information required will depend on the individual assessment and parents’ preference.
Does an ADHD diagnosis mean my child needs medication?
No. An ADHD diagnosis does not automatically mean medication is required. Recommendations depend on the child’s individual needs. Decisions about medication should be discussed with an appropriately qualified medical professional.
